Worm tray has gone wet and smells
Liquid at the bottom of the tray, bedding that drips when squeezed, and a sour or ammonia smell.
01Symptom
Liquid at the bottom of the tray, bedding that drips when squeezed, and a sour or ammonia smell.
02Why it happens
Overfeeding with wet material and not enough dry bedding. Kitchen waste is 80-84 % water and a tray with no carbon to absorb it becomes anaerobic.
03What to do
- 01 Stop feeding for two weeks and drain the bottom tray.
- 02 Add dry shredded newspaper and cardboard and mix it through the top 10 cm.
- 03 Remove any uneaten food and any material that is already slimy.
- 04 Resume feeding at half the previous rate and add a handful of dry bedding with every feed.
