No white mould on the bokashi surface
After two weeks the surface shows no white fungal film and the contents look unchanged.
01Symptom
After two weeks the surface shows no white fungal film and the contents look unchanged.
02Why it happens
Usually one of three things: the bran is old and the inoculant has died, the bucket is too cold (below 10 °C), or the waste was too dry for fermentation to start.
03What to do
- 01 Check the bran smells yeasty and slightly sweet; if it smells musty, replace it.
- 02 Move the bucket somewhere at 15-25 °C.
- 03 Add 200 ml of water to the bucket and press the contents down again.
- 04 Absence of mould is not always failure — judge by the pickle smell and the softened texture.
